Senior Product Designer [Finland]

Do you want to design products people trust their lives with when climbing up the highest mountains, exploring the untouched nature, and diving into the deepest oceans? If that excites you, you're in the right place.

We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our team in Vantaa, Finland.

Our team

At Suunto we are a tight-knit team that values collaboration and inclusion. We share a can-do attitude, and we are given the freedom to choose our own ways of working, but we also expect everyone to take responsibility.

Designers play an integral role in everything we do, and as part of the team, your views are listened to and appreciated. At Suunto, designers participate in studying our customers, crafting ideas and concepts, solving ambiguous problems, designing user interfaces, validating prototypes with customers, polishing the final visuals, supporting developers, and ultimately launching products to the market. We also measure the success of our products to decide how to improve them further.

Your closest colleagues will be other designers, design leads, and the customer research lead. You will also be working daily with developers, product owners, data analysts, the marketing team, and industrial designers. In addition to the team in Vantaa, you will be working with our colleagues in Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Chengdu.

Your role and expertise

You should have at least 2 years of experience in digital product design and be a professional in interaction design and prototyping. Figma is our primary tool, but you are encouraged to use other software when needed.

We develop and maintain a design system, so experience in working with components and creating designs in a structured way is appreciated.

When designing user interfaces for our watches, coding and software development skills are extremely useful, but not mandatory.

Sports features can be surprisingly complicated, so you will need to be able to solve complex problems and visualize the big picture. You will be responsible for creating visual specifications that are easy for developers and product owners to follow. Communication with developers will be key, and you will need to have an understanding of technical possibilities and limitations. Familiarity with agile software development practices is also required.

It is expected that you are familiar with the methods to validate your designs with customers. You should have gained practical experience in conducting usability tests, interviews, and surveys. Making conclusions and presenting the results to your team should also be something you are comfortable with.

We maintain a close relationship with our customers through a collaborative community of passionate adventurers and experienced athletes. We involve them in our design process to learn about their lifestyles, understand their needs, and validate our concepts. Understanding the necessary methods, and the courage to approach people are appreciated.

You do not need to be a professional athlete to work with us, but having some experience in sports as a hobby can be helpful in designing our products.

Data is a driving force behind our design and business decisions. We use Amplitude analytics platform to understand how our watches and apps are being used. You don’t need to be a data hacker, but having an impact-driven mindset is important. We’ll teach you the tools.

Working at Suunto

We support you in broadening your expertise and growing professionally. You are encouraged to take on roles in topics you are interested in learning, and we will find someone to coach you.

Suunto is also a fantastic environment for getting into sports. You’ll be surrounded by enthusiastic colleagues, and there is a gym at our Vantaa office.
