Opportunity at a Glance
The Field Experience Supervisor is responsible for supervising the practicum and field experience processes for the College of Nursing. This is a full-time supervisory position in the College of Nursing. This position will report to the Director of Field Experience. This position will work closely with the Director, field experience coordinators, academic leadership, program directors, specialty coordinators, faculty, academic advisors, contract administrators, support staff, as well as other administrators in the college.
Responsibilities
- Assist in arranging practicum placements in a variety of settings across a variety of nursing programs that include practicum experiences.
- Assist nursing students in completing and gaining approval for practicum application materials and locating field placement sites as needed across a variety of nursing programs.
- Review and approve field placement sites and preceptors submitted on practicum applications to ensure the site and preceptor meet practicum course requirements.
- Process and maintain student Field Experience files, Field Experience applications, preceptor information and field placement site information.
- Interface with academic partners to ensure clear understanding of program policies and procedures.
- Assist specialty coordinators and field experience faculty in resolving student problems arising out of the practicum experience.
- Assist in maintaining Field Experience resources (e.g. manual, website, webinars, etc.) outlining the mission, purpose, and objectives of the field experience as well as a description of all Field Experience policies and procedures.
- Assist in managing and administering student evaluations to monitor student practicum progress and satisfaction.
- Communicate with preceptors and practicum site administrators to place students for practicum and facilitate practicum experiences.
- Communicate with students via phone and electronic methods to counsel and advise students across nursing programs on Field Experience information, requirements, policies and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining a Field Experience manual and website outlining the mission, purpose, and objectives of the field experience as well as a description of all Field Experience policies and procedures.
- Prepare, complete and maintain reports, files and documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assist in hiring, training, and mentoring new team members.
- Assist in identifying and developing new initiatives to increase student satisfaction through the practicum experience as managed by the director.
- Handle, investigate and respond to student escalations by obtaining and evaluating all relevant data to resolve issues and inquiries.
- Participate in the planning, development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures of field experience.
- Foster an atmosphere that promotes and supports professional leadership behaviors in Field Experience Office.
- Interpret and ensure self and employees are in compliance with university and department policies.
- Identify and solve employee matters; manage conflict; respond to staff grievances in partnership with the Director.
- Evaluate the procedures and processes in the Field Experience Office, in partnership with the Director, to align operational processes around the needs of students, preceptors, and agencies.
- Evaluate daily workflow of Field Experience tasks and implement effective work plans to manage workflow levels.
- Identify and assess issues related to clinical experiences and recommend appropriate interventions and solutions to the Director.
- Makes recommendations related to management, supervision, evaluation of team members and organizational processes and functioning to the Director of Operations of Field Experience.
- Manage, supervise, and evaluate performance of Field Experience coordinators through supervisory leadership and conducting weekly individual meetings with staff.
- Approve leave, time away from work, work schedules and work assignments.
- Assist in the review and approval of verifications for field site onboarding purposes.
- Provide leadership to field experience staff in the absence of the Director of Operations of Field Experience.
- Work in partnership with Field Experience staff members as a team member to accomplish Field Experience goals.
- Attend meetings and participate in professional development programs as requested.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Operations of Field Experience.
- Must possess a Master’s Degree.
- At least five years of experience in nursing that includes: an understanding of the clinical practice of nursing, students, and knowledge of the diverse organizational environments in which nurses practice.
- Experience in management or supervision in a healthcare or education setting.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, written and verbal communication, detail-oriented, multitasking, and organizational skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent time management skills with an ability to set and meet deadlines.
- Creative, innovative, and strategic thinking as well as the ability to work independently.
- Ability to independently work with faculty and graduate students at a distance.
- Ability to anticipate future trends and problems and plan for them accordingly.
- Ability to learn Walden’s administrative database and software systems.
- Successful experience working in a team setting.
- Experience in the area of academic or other student advising is preferred.
- Experience in an online distance-learning environment is preferred.
- Experience working with graduate students in an educational environment is preferred.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel as business needs require.
Additional Information
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $51962.03 and $93918.96. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
